TEC Kol Class Battleship Modernization Final

This was a fun project to undertake, I can say confidently it was outside my comfort zone but the end results leave me more confident as an artist. Its design is true to form and easily recognizable but given additions to its visuals to not only modernize it but give the illusion of functionality and add to its believability as a space craft.

Recognizable, but modernized and given an amount of believable grit.

When redesigning this ship, I made an attempt to make every part of the ship feel like its functionally serving a purpose.

My light placements aren't random, they are designed to bring attention to certain elements of the design.

Faster than light in SOASE works through an in universe mechanic called phase space, towards the back of the ship I redesigned the phase generators and gave them a mild ethereal aesthetic.

I kept the ships overal profile the same, its important to me that the design be immediately recognizable. What I did was round out certain elements of the design and tried to added physical detail over texture detail.

The engines were tough, I wanted to make these engines seem powerful. Moving this much mass would require a lot of force. Going with a bluish/white glow to indicate extreme heat seamed like a logical leap.

Wear and tear has been added to all elements of the ship to give it not only a grittier feel but to add to its visible utility.

Escape pods were added along the side inset, In order to believe this ship has a crew and that crew matters. There must be systems in place to save that crew in an emergency.

Rather than leaving the hangar bays with just bright glows which is more traditional for sci fi, I used blast doors giving it a sense of realism and practicality.

A loading bay for railgun munitions and a physically visible shield generator to fill what was negative space with purpose.

A retrieval bay has been added to the flight deck module. It allows traffic in and out of the ship without overlap. Green and red lights used to give pilots a sense of orientation before entry.
